Lore Rivera was married to two men at once, until one of them found out and shot the other. A secret double life, a tragic murder. That's the story the world knows. It's not the story that fascinates Cassie Bowman. True-crime writer Cassie wants to know more about the mysterious ...woman at the heart of it all, Lore. How did one woman fall in love with two different men? How did she feel when it all came crashing down? To her surprise, Cassie finds that Lore is willing to talk, and as the women grow closer, Cassie finds she can't help but confess her own darkest secrets in return. But as Cassie realises Lore isn't telling the full story, is either woman prepared for what will happen when the truth finally comes to light?

NZ Review |
As addictive as a real-life who-dunnit, with thoughtful attention to the ethical implications of the true crime genre, More Than You'll Ever Know explores how we entangle ourselves one choice at a time, and what it costs to unravel the damage. Crystalline and multi-faceted, this is a page-turner brimming with empathy, a window into 1980s Mexico City and Laredo, and the ways community both bouys and pulls us under. Katie Gutierrez is a force, and she writes fabulously complicated, fully-realized characters who will linger with you long after the final page. -- Julia Fine, author of The Upstairs House and What Should Be Wild |
