Beatrice Yates (Aunty Bea) in Rotorua has published a new book, her 6th in 6 years. Tamatekapua. It follows the same format as previous books for children, bi lingual with CD narration by herself and Rodger Cunningham plus waiata pertaining to Tamatekapua. This book is beautif...ully illustrated by Kat Quin Merewether and will be wonderful for the children and teachers to learn about the great explorer Tamatekapua. Tamatekapua was a young mischievous boy who lived in "Hawaiiki", with his brother Whakaturia they got into all sorts of mischief which led them to finally building a waka and taking some of their people searching for a new land and home in Aotearoa. The story tells about these times, the voyage and finally landing on the shores of Aotearoa. Tamatekapu named many well known landmarks such as Rangitoto Island in Auckland. They sailed on down the coast to finally settle at Maketu. The people of the Arawa waka then gradually spread across the land to Rotorua and down to Taupo. The story is fun, informative and factual.
