How do we interact with other people? What does the word 'relationship' mean to you? How can you negotiate your place in the world while respecting other people's boundaries? What exactly is consent? What does it mean and why does it matter? Why is there so much debate around it?... Can we talk about it? Consent is a powerful word, but not everyone understands exactly what it means. Can We Talk About Consent? explains clearly what consent means and why it matters - in all areas of life. With honest, expert explanations by experienced sex and relationships educator Justin Hancock, children will learn how consent is a vital part of how we relate to ourselves and our self-esteem, the people close to us and the wider world. Readers will uncover how to develop and maintain a variety of relationships, how to manage and avoid negative relationships and learn more about equality and respect. Covers a broad range of situations, including: how we greet each other; how we work out who wants to play in goal; what video game we're going to play; what kind of touch is okay in the playground; and how we choose things for ourselves. Colourful, striking illustrations by Fuchsia MacAree help children relate what they read to the world around them. Can We Talk About Consent? breaks down the basics of how to have healthyrelationships throughout our lives. This clearly written, stylishly illustrated guide to respecting ourselves and others makes a valuable handbook for boys and girls 12 years and older.
