Awards, Reviews & Star Ratings

UK Review Coben continues to develop ideas and themes from such novels as One False Move in this diverting outing. Sports agent and detective Myron Bolitar has lost both the women he loved, and he is passing the time with a CNN newsreader on a secluded Caribbean island. But his palmy days are at an end when his alter-ego Win comes to fetch him back to New York, where his client Clu Haid, a relief pitcher for the Yankees, has failed his drug testing and been subsequently murdered. To complicate matters, Myron's agency partner, Esperanza, has been arrested for the murder, and the evidence against her is persuasive. Along with this Coben throws at his protagonist sexually ambitious bodybuilders, failed baseball players, team owners chasing disappearing children, and youthful Jersey gangster-cum-agent Frank Ache Junior chasing after Myron's business. Coben pulls off the juggling trick with these diverse elements, and Myron is always a winning hero, just about coping with all his crises. The wit, of course, is as sharp as ever. (Kirkus UK)
