              On the Edge

              On the Edge (EPUB ebook)

              By Strutt, Lesley

On the Edge tells the story of Emerald Lake Visser, an unhappy fourteen-year-old who came to live on her aunt and uncle's farm when she was orphaned at age five. A misfit in her community and at school, her only real friend is an elderly woman, Jess, who teaches her to sail. Emma...'s a natural sailor, as if she's been on a sailboat her whole life. When Jess dies, it's revealed that she was Emma's grandmother. After receiving a letter that her mother may be living in the Bahamas, Emma runs away on her grandmother's boat, the Edge, to find her. Disguising herself as a boy, Emma sails the Edge through the Erie Canal, down the Hudson River, out onto the Atlantic Ocean and through the ICW to Miami, where she crosses the Gulf Stream to the Bahamas. Navigational mistakes, near misses with the coast guard, a robbery, and storms put Emma in danger time and again. To add to her stress, by the time she reaches New York City she suspects she's being followed. She notices small black pebbles appearing on her boat, along with dirty footprints in her cockpit. When a handwritten note is tucked into her porthole, she becomes very frightened. She has no passport and is underage. If she's caught, she'll be sent back to the farm. But Emma is determined to find her mother.

At age 19, Marisa Imon was diagnosed with bipolar type 1 and had to withdraw from school during a manic episode. All her life leading up to this she had been at the mercy of her emotions - never knowing if she'd wake up feeling suicidal or euphoric. But to the world around her, s...he was just a happy, friendly girl. She hid her emotional intensity until it reached a breaking point in the form of mania.Modern medicine and therapy made her believe there was no recovery, or at least not without medication. She was told that people with bipolar type one can go on to live happy, healthy, and successful lives, but only if they're medicated. While this book is not about being medication-free and the tools taught in this book can be practiced regardless of medication choices, it was her journey to find stability without medications that led her to discover how to live in harmony with emotional intensity and severe sensitivity. In this book, Marisa share twenty tools that she uses daily to help her work with her emotional intensity instead of feeling like her emotions are working against her. Whether you have a mood disorder, are empathic, or just feel things strongly, this book will make your special ability feel like the greatest strength in the world. You will end up feeling like you are your own superhero. Because you really are!Marisa mixes in her tools and mindfulness resources with stories about her experiences with bipolar, anxiety, depression, insomnia and bulimia, as well as anecdotes from comic book heroes. In this book you'll learn: How to be responsible for your emotional sensitivity The number one journaling technique for changing your beliefs and uplifting your emotions A special trick to easily quell any uncomfortable emotion or toxic relationship The most important thing you must do for your body to use your emotions for good How to use your fears and anxieties to move upwards in the emotional scale How to use the world around you to improve your emotional state
