I never meant to say a word, not one single word. But I did. Now because of something I leaked-without even realizing it-I've inadvertently broken up one of the Ice Knights' most legendary bromances. And worse-I've kicked hockey star Ian Petrov's grumpy level to insane le...vels of grump. And what could make it worse? How about the two of us being trapped together in a remote cabin after a massive blizzard. Neither of us can leave. Just us, the snow, his resentment, and OMG sexual tension so thick it would take a snowplow to break through it. I've got to get out of here before I do something even dumber than I've already done and kiss the sexy grouch with his misplaced anger and perfect pecs. That would be the worst, the absolute worst. But... would it be terrible if we gave in? Just a little? It's not like we're ever going to have to spend time together again.

You were my first. Not just sex, although that was part of it, but the first to look past everything else into me. Some of the names and places have been changed, but the story is true. It's all here because one day this will be the past, and I don't want to forget what I went th...rough, what I thought, what I felt, who I was. I don't want to forget you. But most of all, I don't want to forget me. For her last summer before college, Claudine Henry and her mother head to a remote island off the Georgia coast. There, amidst the wild beauty of the place, she meets the free spirited Jeremiah Crew. Their chemistry is immediate and irresistible, and even though they both know that whatever they have can only last the summer, maybe one summer is enough . . .

Making the invisible visible: Reclaiming women's agency in Swedish film history and beyond

Making the invisible visible: Reclaiming women's agency in Swedish film history and beyond (EPUB ebook)

              Edited by Stigsdotter, Ingrid

As film stars, actresses have contributed to the film industry's glamorous surface. To talk about women in film as "invisible" may thus seem odd. This book, however, is concerned with the paradox that on the other side of the camera, women are clearly underrepresented. This is tr...ue of contemporary film culture, and has been true historically, despite significant variations between countries/geographical areas, historical time periods and different roles/professions in film production, distribution and exhibition. Considering women's gradually increasing participation in the paid workforce during the 20th century, women's representation in film work might also be expected to increase gradually from the beginning of cinema and onwards. However, as the Women Film Pioneers Project has suggested, the number of women who "at all levels inside and outside the Hollywood film industry" was greater in first two decades of cinema "than at any time since". This may partly reflect the fact that it was easier for women to enter the film industry in an early, experimental phase, before it had become apparent how lucrative the medium of film could be. Nevertheless there is arguably a need to extend the attention on women's contributions to film history beyond the silent era, making visible what has been absent in traditional film history books, and reclaim women's agency in a wider film historical perspective. This anthology represents a step in this direction. The articles included in the book deal with women's agency in a wide range of roles, in film production, exhibition and criticism, but also with new perspectives on stars/actresses and their agency, and extending focus to include LGBT and queer identities. We pay particular attention to the challenges and opportunities that digitization offers for projects of this kind, including a wider range of methods, subjects and themes.

Fashioned in the North: Nordic Histories, Agents and Images of Fashion Photography

Fashioned in the North: Nordic Histories, Agents and Images of Fashion Photography (EPUB ebook)

              Edited by Dahlgren, Anna

This edited volume showcases new examples-previously untold stories of images, photographers, publications, and institutions -partly unknown outside the Nordic countries. The authors examine the reasons for and implications of this underexposure, taking on a photographic metaphor.... While simultaneously challenging previously taken-for-granted ideas of the centre and periphery in this field, the book also widens the study of fashion photography. Notably, the hybridity of approaches may enrich future studies of fashion photography. In Fashioned in the North, fashion photography is viewed as a transnational phenomenon and a material object, as well as a medium that is part of a media system and a result of archival systems and history writings. Furthermore, the book displays how studies of fashion photography can be so much more than stories of a few names and iconic images or studies of individual and periodic style. Indeed, the study of fashion photography may be a prism through which we can uncover cultural, social, economic, and ideological aspects of society at present and in the past.

Tribalization: Why war is coming (EPUB ebook)

              By Debeuf, Koert

War is coming. In Tribalization Koert Debeuf depicts war as an inevitable outcome should the current decreasing of democracy and globalization continue. To describe this worldwide process towards more authoritarian nationalism and fundamentalism The author coins the term tribaliz...ation to describe this worldwide process, towards a more authoritarian nationalism and fundamentalism, and reminds his readership of the highly similar 1930s. The election of Donald Trump as president of the United States, the dangerous politics of world leaders like Vladimir Putin, and terrorism are but a few exponents of the worldwide tribalization process that is currently fuelling geopolitics.Leaving traditional explanations aside, Debeuf explains the continuous historical interaction between globalization and tribalization not merely as a economic or political phenomenon. Tribalization is collective psychology, it interrupts globalization when communities react to collective trauma by returning to their mythical, tribal past. Debeuf's insights are based on history and psychology but also on his personal experience during the Arab Revolution, and during his previous political functions, both as an advisor to the former Belgian Prime Minister and as European Union official.
