The title of this book reflects the fundamental aim: to explore the relation between exposure to job stressors and mental health. This is done with the primary intention of developing a new clinical approach, one which takes a proactive stance, emphasizing the need for creating w...ork conditions that are more in harmony with the needs of the human being. Pivotal to this endeavor is to provide an integrative and comprehensive methodology, for assessing work stressors and ameliorating them whenever possible. This methodology, the Occupational Stressor Index, the OSI, was developed by the authors, who have successfully applied the OSI over the years in the context of prevention-oriented clinical practice within neurology and psychiatry, as well as within cardiology, oncology and other medical disciplines. The OSI is grounded in cognitive ergonomics and brain research. The authors, as clinicians, have a special interest in and affinity with their colleagues, their fellow physicians. Consequently, the working conditions and mental health of physicians are strongly emphasized throughout the book. Gender considerations are also woven into the entire book. This book will be of value to readers at many levels and interests. It is written in such a way that a non-expert can learn a great deal about the topics. Readers at all levels can reflect on their own work situation and how it could be improved within the framework of enhanced mental health. For health professionals, particularly psychiatrists, occupational medicine specialists, clinical psychologists as well as physicians involved in primary care and rehabilitation, this book will represent a sorely-needed paradigm shift which will help them address a main source of their patients' mental distress. It will be thought-provoking and yet also practical. Part I of the book provides the multi-faceted, scientific justification for this new clinical approach. The authors, as clinicians themselves, speak the clinical language and

New quantum mechanical methods in spectral analysis offer significant advantages, including enhanced resolution and more comprehensive analysis of individual spectral peaks. This book describes the novel applications of these methods to signal processing across a wide range of in...terdisciplinary research fields. These methods allow researchers to evaluate data with an accuracy that is not possible with conventional methods. Focusing on applications in various areas of physics, such as accelerator physics and fusion physics radiation oncology, the text critically compares new and established methodologies based on a detailed analysis of experimental results obtained from each method.

Uses the FPT to Solve the Quantification Problem in MRS An invaluable tool in non-invasive clinical oncology diagnostics Addressing the critical need in clinical oncology for robust and stable signal processing in magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS), Signal Processing in Magnet...ic Resonance Spectroscopy with Biomedical Applications explores cutting-edge theory-based innovations for obtaining reliable quantitative information from MR signals for cancer diagnostics. By defining the natural framework of signal processing using the well-established theory of quantum physics, the book illustrates how advances in signal processing can optimize MRS. The authors employ the fast Pade transform (FPT) as the unique polynomial quotient for the spectral analysis of MR time signals. They prove that residual spectra are necessary but not sufficient criteria to estimate the error invoked in quantification. Instead, they provide a more comprehensive strategy that monitors constancy of spectral parameters as one of the most reliable signatures of stability and robustness of quantification. The authors also use Froissart doublets to unequivocally distinguish between genuine and spurious resonances in both noise-free and noise-corrupted time signals, enabling the exact reconstruction of all the genuine spectral parameters. They show how the FPT resolves and quantifies tightly overlapped resonances that are abundantly seen in MR spectra generated using data from encoded time signals from the brain, breast, ovary, and prostate. Written by a mathematical physicist and a clinical scientist, this book captures the multidisciplinary nature of biomedicine. It examines the remarkable ability of the FPT to unambiguously quantify isolated, tightly overlapped, and nearly confluent resonances.

While approaches to mathematical signal processing methods for magnetic resonance spectroscopy are known, their clinical relevance is less understood. This book bridges the gap between what is known and how to apply it. It demonstrates the need for advanced signal processing meth...ods and suggests that the fast Pade transform is suited for this.
