CBCA award-winning picture book author Edwina Wyatt makes her fiction debut with a whimsical tale of a curious little girl who shares more than just her surname with the moon: They're both excellent secret keepers. Magnolia Moon is nine years old, likes Greek mythology, her best ...friend Imogen May (who understands the importance of questions like, "If you could be one fruit, any fruit, what would you be?"), wishing trees, and speaking crows. She knows instinctively that buffadillos are armadillos crossed with buffalos and believes there are walramingos living in her garden. She's also the kind of person who can be entrusted with a great many secrets. Each chapter in this novel, which captures Magnolia's year of being nine and ends on Chapter Almost 10, reveals a secret that Magnolia is keeping. But the novel also chronicles a year of change for Magnolia. From her best friend moving to the birth of her little brother Finnegan, Magnolia navigates every challenge and secret that comes her way with the kind of authenticity and innocence that comes from being nine years wise.

Now I have got you and now you have got me, a brand new story's beginning. But...Before you were you and before I was me, a big lemon tree was swaying ...'Before You Were You' is a narrated family tree, traversing a range of generations, revealing fragments of days, years and pre...cious moments in the lives of people who came before, all through the lens of a new family creating their own special memories. It is a celebration of personal history, narrative and family; all unique and yet bound by a common thread. The story is inspired by the profundity of the role that we all play as both passenger and pilot. AUTHOR: Edwina Wyatt is a solicitor and mother from the south coast of New South Wales, Australia. She studied Law and Economics at the University of Wollongong and has post-graduate qualifications in Education. She approaches her writing as an exploration of life's beginnings, middles and endings. Her professional background as both a solicitor and a teacher are an extension of her interest in the complexity, power and centrality of relationships and identity, being as fragile as they are robust. These are themes which colour and texture her writing, being gentle, whimsical meditations of self and the domestic. ILLUSTRATOR: Bren Luke was born and raised in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. He studied Fine Art at Ballarat University, majoring in painting and printmaking and graduated in 1997 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. For the past decade or so, Bren's work has been focused on traditional drawing techniques, primarily using pen and ink. His detailed cross-hatching style was born from an interest in the 16th-century engravings of Albrecht Durer and by studying the vast and varied work of underground comic book artists and illustrators such as R. Crumb & Chris Ware. Cinematic scenes, old and new architectural styles, city and provincial urban landscapes, the individuals who inhabit these spaces and the stillness and isolation of these places provide much of the theme
