Banana is the world's largest monoecious, monocarpic, monocotyledonous perennial herbs belonging to the family Musaceae with about 1000 varieties in the World .It is attaining a commercial importance in many a country of the tropical world.Banana is a heavy feeder of nutrients an...d requires large quantities of nutrients for its growth, development and yield. But continuous use of inorganic sources of nutrients has adverse affects on soil have made it necessary to think for integration of different sources of nutrients not only for more production but also to sustain soil health . Therefore, the highest possible efficiency in use of fertilizers as well as maximum use of available alternative sources of nutrients are need to be ensured. Integrated nutrient management has been gaining popularity all over the world. Keeping in view, the present book is written on the basis of the original research and it explains with facts and figure about the influences of integrated nutrient management on banana. The book will certainly be useful for researchers as well as growers and students.

During storage and transportation generally low temperature of 2-4 C and RH of 95-98% is beneficial for most of the cut flowers. However, a simple low cost arrangement for maintaining low temperature, during transport and storage for the small and marginal farmers is highly deman...ded in India.Except some scattered information, there is no detailed report on the physiological response of storage condition and the temperature of water used at retailer's level in these crops under Indian condition. Considering above constrains in view, for developing affordable technologies for these three cut flowers viz. Gerbera, Gladiolus and Tuberose, the present experiments were conducted at the laboratory of All India Coordinated Research Project ( AICRP) of Post Harvest Technology at Bidhan Chnadra Krishi viswavidyalaya ( BCKV), India. The results justify that petal colour is positively correlated with adequate supply of carbohydrates and water. Also storage for 24 hours at 10 C exhibited least floret wilting with better turgidity throughout the vase life.

Banana requires more potassium for growth, production and quality. As Muriate of Potash (MOP) is commonly used as the source of potassium, the chloride toxicity is often met in banana, hindering the crop growth, yield and quality. However, the effect of Sulphate Of Potash (SOP) a...s a post shooting applicant in banana has not been assessed earlier. With this background, an investigation was initiated at the Department of Fruit Crops, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, India to study the efficacy of SOP on growth, yield and quality of banana cv. Robusta (AAA) as compared to MOP. The findings of this research work have been published in a book form entitled Potassium nutrition in banana . The key finding clearly indicated the benefit of SOP (1.5%) in increasing the bunch size with better quality fruits, realizing a higher benefit:cost ratio and it is recommended to integrate SOP spray (1.5%) in banana nutrition, besides supplying recommended dose of K through MOP at 3, 5 and 7 MAP. This book would be much useful to horticulturalists, scientists involving in banana nutrient management research, students, banana growers, banana exporters, fertilizer industries, etc.

One of the major problems of peach cultivation is its limited postharvest life. It has a shelf-life of 3-5 days under ordinary conditions of storage whereas, storage of fruit under refrigerated conditions can extend its postharvest life but fruit suffers from chilling injury when... stored at low temperature for prolong period. Postharvest heating is resorted to kill or weaken plant pathogens or eggs and larvae of some insects like fruit fly. This treatment is a pesticide free method against insect- pests and diseases. These postharvest treatments have been used extensively for improving shelf-life of different fruits but meager information is available on the effect of such treatments on postharvest quality of peach. This book will really prove a torch bearer for those who are directly or indirectly engaged in preservative activities of stone fruits. It shall also be very useful for the students seeking admission in post-graduate and doctorate programmes, teachers and researchers working on postharvest technology of fruits.

This book focuses on the effects of four sources of water on the growth of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) at Kpong in the Manya Krobo District. The sources of irrigation water were: river, canal, tap and well. The quality of these sources was monitored for a period of five mont...hs (August - December 2007). Sampling was done every 6 days in each month. Samples from each of the source taken were sent to the laboratory for analysis. The quality parameters determined include: pH, Electrical Conductivity, Mg, Ca, Total Dissolved Solids. Each water source was used to irrigate tomatoes. In course of the irrigation, soil pH, EC, Na, Mg and % total NH4N were monitored for a period of three months. Tomato plant height, leaf length, stem diameter were measured monthly over the three month period. Number and weight of fruits were determined in the third month. River water was the most preferred source for irrigation by virtue of its optimum level of pH, EC, TDS Na, Ca,

Root rot of alfalfa caused by Rhizoctonia solani is considered one of the most important diseases, which annually occurred in many plants and causes great losses in yield production. So the present study aimed to find the best strategy to control or at least reduce disease severi...ty. The Results showed that the fungal isolates were identified by using the morphological features of mycelia as R. solani. Effect of certain antagonistic bio-agents fungi to inhibit the growth of R. solani has been studied under laboratory. In general isolate No. 2002, followed by 2008 and 2004, which recorded (60.5, 47.2and 33.1%), respectively In this respect, the highest inhibition of R. solani growth was occurred by isolate No.5001, followed by 5007 and 5009, 5002, which recorded (54.56, 449.39, 46.26 and 46.26 %), respectively. Eight bacterial strains were tested against growth of Rhizoctonia sp was investigated in vitro .demonstrated that all tested bacteria significantly inhibited growth of Rhizoctonia sp in vitro.
