For nearly five decades, some of the United States military's most secretive operations were conducted out of a collection of nondescript buildings at the intersection of State Route 237 and Mathilda Avenue in Sunnyvale, California. The installation was known by a variety of name...s in its early years: Satellite Test Center, Air Force Satellite Control Facility, the Blue Cube, and Sunnyvale Air Force Station. In July 1986, the facility was renamed Onizuka Air Force Base after Col. Ellison S. Onizuka, the first Asian American astronaut, who was killed during the space shuttle Challenger accident. The location was selected due to its proximity to Lockheed Missiles and Space Company's Sunnyvale facilities and supported early satellite reconnaissance programs such as Corona, Gambit, and Hexagon. As the nation's nucleus for satellite command and control, workers at Onizuka Air Force Base directed efforts for the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), US military, and NASA's space shuttle program until the closure of the base in 2010.

This U.S. Army manual, Training Circular TC 3-22.19 Grenade Machine Gun MK 19 MOD 3 Change 1 January 2020, is comprised of nine chapters and five appendices, and is specifically tailored to the individual Soldier's use of the MK 19 grenade machine gun. This TC is divided into two... major parts to provide specific information about the weapon, aiming devices, attachments, followed by sequential chapters on the tactical employment of the weapon system. TC 3-22.19 is purposely organized in a progressive manner, each chapter or appendix building on the information from the previous section. This organization provides a logical sequence of information which directly supports the Army's training strategy for the weapon at the individual level. Chapters 1 through 4 of this TC describe the weapon, aiming devices, weapon mounts, and accessories associated with the weapon. General information is provided in the chapters of the manual, with more advanced information placed in appendix A, Ammunition, and appendix B, Machine Gun Theory. Chapters 5 through 9 provide the employment, stability, aiming, control and movement information. This portion focuses on the Solder skills needed to produce a well-aimed burst. Appendix C of this publication provides common tactical drills that are used in training and combat that directly support tactical engagements. Appendix D provides zeroing information on this weapon. Finally, appendix E of this publication, is provided at a common location in this and future weapons publications to provide a common location for reference for qualification. TC 3-22.19 applies to all Soldiers, regardless of experience or position. This publication is designed specifically for the Soldier's use on the range during training, and as a reference while deployed. This publication applies to the active Army, the Army National Guard (ARNG)/Army National Guard of the United States (ARNGUS), and the United States Army Reserve (USAR).

The purpose of this book is to complement my first book, Engineer, Set Refueling Power. I tried to bring-in as many personal experiences as I can remember, in order to make sense of it all. There is some repetition from the first book. For example, in order to describe what it fe...els like during a Minimum Interval Takeoff (MITO), I have to repeat what a MITO is.ResponsibilityOne thing becomes clear. We were all somewhat immature, as 2nd and 1st lieutenants; we were in our early twenties. We were well trained, and the Air Force expected a lot from us. The responsibilities heaped upon us young rated officers far exceeded that granted by private industry. Actually, it took many years to attain the same level of responsibility, if at all. Additionally, there was the real fear of screwing up, in the Air Force, and causing a life or death situation. In private industry, a screw-up may cause financial distress, but there is sufficient oversight to minimize the impact of a failure of a part causing death or injury. This could occur but the oversight by more experienced people, as well as the chief engineer's office, minimized the potential.Professional TrainingI graduated from Boston University in June 1960, with a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering. Immediately thereafter, I received my commission as a 2nd lieutenant in the Air Force Reserve, via the AFROTC program. I was slated to become an Air Force navigator. My goal was to do one tour of active duty and leave the Air Force to work as an aeronautical engineer in the aerospace industry, before my professional training became stale. I wrote quite a bit about aircraft I was associated with, and, especially about aircraft engines and propellers.Pistons to JetsI found the 1960s were a transition period between piston engine-powered aircraft and jet engine-powered aircraft. The Pratt & Whitney R4360 Wasp Major was the most powerful piston engine to go into production. It powered the KC-97 tankers I was associated with on active

Mike Busch on Airplane Ownership is the much-awaited sequel to his previous books Manifesto and Engines. In this two-volume set, Busch distills his wisdom from his more than 50 years as an aircraft owner. He brings his refreshingly commonsense and often outside-the-box approach t...o every aspect of owning and operating a general aviation aircraft. Volume 1 covers selecting, purchasing, insuring, and maintaining an aircraft. Busch emphasizes that it is the aircraft owner-not his mechanics-who bears the regulatory responsibility for airworthiness. He discusses how to choose the right mechanic or shop and how to manage the maintenance they perform. Busch dissects the much-dreaded annual inspection, and how owners can keep it from spiraling out of control. He offers guidance about the all-important post-maintenance test flight, and how to deal with an owner's worst nightmare: a mechanical breakdown far from home. Volume 2 (publication date Christmas 2019) covers the rules and regulations that every aircraft owner needs to know but is often not taught. It discusses owner-performed maintenance, troubleshooting techniques, aircraft modifications, twins, and resolving owner/mechanic disputes. It takes the reader on a guided tour through the various aircraft systems, discussing the operation, care and feeding of each one. It offers guidance on how to fly safely and efficiently, including leaning techniques, air-speed and altitude selection, and more. The volume concludes with Busch's thoughts about the future of owner-flown general aviation and where we're headed. If you own an aircraft (or want to), these books will be an invaluable addition to your aviation library.
