This book is about landscape values. It is the story of Peter and Simone Shaw and the gardens they create in their business, Ocean Road Landscaping, their home garden, Sunnymeade and how you can take inspiration to work with the landscape in creating your garden. Soulscape- Conne...cting Gardens to Landscape takes readers on a photographic journey through ten gardens located along the world-famous Great Ocean Road. It illustrates the challenges and outcomes of creating a garden by the sea or in the wilderness, and how each garden fits within its natural environment, accompanied by a detailed glossary of plant species. Peter Shaw shares 'how to' information, coming from his own experience of over 20 years in designing, building and maintaining coastal gardens, and his commitment to incorporating native and indigenous plants to enhance the wider landscape that they inhabit. Collectively, the gardens in this book serve as a primer for homeowners, gardening enthusiasts, or anyone with a deep love for nature.

It's a beautiful, rich word that means family . Yet, in the forests and villages of this part of Uganda - and across much of tropical Africa and Asia - families are at war. In the narrowing margins between forest and farm, human and non-human, there is a growing conflict. A deadl...y conflict. The Amanka Book Project has been coordinated by writer, David Blissett and primate curator, Lou Grossfeldt. We celebrate our closest living relatives, by sharing the stories and experiences of the people who are working, fighting, and sometimes risking their lives to save them. We focus on all ape species (gorilla, orangutan, chimpanzee, bonobo and the gibbon family). These are stories of sacrifice and courage and hope; tears and happiness; love and loss. In each chapter, Lou and David speak with people who devote their lives to the conservation and wellbeing of the apes. This includes scientists, researchers, caregivers, vets, filmmakers and conservation advocates. Many of the stories in this book have never been told before and will give readers a direct insight into the day-to-day heartaches, challenges and joys of working with these intelligent, sentient beings. 'We wrote this book to raise awareness of the plight of our ape family and to share the stories of the unsung heroes who are trying to help them. All contributors have been donated to this project and profits from book sales will be donated to various ape conservation and enrichment programs or projects' Lou Grossfeldt and David Blissett

Heartwood challenges the entrenched view that when it comes to forests, one is either a conservationist or a profiteer. Forest scientist Rowan Reid draws on over twenty years of experience and study to offer a third way: where growing trees for profit can have a positive environm...ental impact. He challenges the ideological poles that dominate the debate and offers a scientific view on how anyone with the necessary land and time can grow their own trees and profit from them while improving the soil, water and ecosystem. Rowan also shares the personal story and family history that lead him to his revolutionary new approach. He shares his passion for native trees and provides the practical information that readers will need to understand and grow trees of their own.

Sculptures of Melbourne explores major changes in the nature of public sculpture. When Melbourne was established, sculpture was heavily influenced by the colonial legacy of neo-classical bronze and marble statues. From 1980 onwards, public sculpture changed dramatically, not only... in style but in materials, location and sheer numbers. This book tells the story of how the shifting trends in public sculpture moved from a classical style, to commemorative, to a corporate modernist style, to being integrated into urban design, and finally evolving into a contemporary style, which is non-traditional and temporary. The history includes controversial modernist sculptures such as aThe Yellow Perila and unofficial laneway installation works. The book is written in an easy accessible style and is also a pictorial essay of Melbourneas sculptures. The Author: Mark S. Holsworth is a writer, art critic and artist who lives in Melbourne. He has written plays, short stories and authors a long-running blog: Black Mark a" Melbourne Art & Culture Critic. He studied philosophy and art history at Monash and LaTrobe universities, and has exhibited in several Melbourne galleries.

His collaborations with Graeme Murphy saw scenes of unleashed imagination, breathtaking beauty and impeccable craftsmanship, pulsing with human emotion. Memories of Kristian's sets and costumes for Sheherazade, Daphnis and Chloe, An Evening, The Selfish Giant, After Venice, Late ...Afternoon of a Faun, King Roger, Beauty and the Beast and later stagings of Poppy, are his legacy to us all. This book examines the life and career of acclaimed designer for the theatre, Kristian Fredrikson (1940-2005). Fredrikson worked across theatrical genres including in theatre, dance, opera, and film and television. Born in Wellington, New Zealand, Fredrikson began his design career working with a small, amateur operetta company in Wellington. He then went on to establish a major, five decade-long career in Australia, returning to New Zealand on occasions to design for opera and ballet. During the 1970s Fredrikson worked extensively with Melbourne Theatre Company where he met the then-emerging Australian choreographer Graeme Murphy. This was to be a turning point in his life and in 1979 he made his first work for Murphy's Sydney Dance Company, a mysterious and exotic Sheherazade. Those years were also when he began an association with the Australian Opera, which included a production of Lucrezia Borgia in which Dame Joan Sutherland sang the lead. In the 1980s, Fredrikson was persuaded to return to New Zealand to design works for Royal New Zealand Ballet. It was the ballet he admired above all and the book examines two New Zealand productions, two Australian ones, and one (his final work) in Houston, Texas. 'I was willing to die for my art,' Fredrikson said. And he did, while the Houston Swan Lake still in preparation. Kristian is a recipient of four Erik Design Awards and won prestigious Green Room Awards for After Venice (Sydney Dance Company - 1985), King Roger (1991), Turandot (1991), The Nutcracker (1992), Salome (1993), Swan Lake (2002) and an AFI award for Undercover.
