Didn't Jesus drink alcohol? Yes, of course he did. Jesus drank Oxos on the cross. Oxos is often translated as vinegar which was a cheap or sour wine. Even though it was vinegar it contained alcohol. For this reason many people excuse themselves to drink without considering this q...uestion, How much did Jesus drink? or Did He drink Himself sick? The Bible says that wine is a mocker, intoxicating drink arouses brawling (Proverbs 20:1). The Bible also says, Woe to him who gives drink to his neighbor, pressing him to your bottle, even to make him drunk (Habakkuk 2:15). Drinking alcohol is not where the sin is. However, abusing it and drinking until one is drunk, is. Worshiping its usage and being unable to walk away from it as if it is your new found god, is a sin. The bodies in which we dwell in are temples of the Holy Spirit. We cannot dispense liquor into our temples of God without polluting it. Liquor destroys blood vessels, brain cells, causes cirrhosis of the liver, which leads to delirium tremens, transforming some of societies greatest thinkers into habitual alcoholics. Besides that, liquor destroys relationships, families and lives, even to the point of death. We have been commissioned to work an important role within the Body of Christ (church). We cannot do that while drunk. Jesus did not drink wine during the 40 days He was on earth after the resurrection. Overseers of the church are not to be given liquor according to 1 Timothy 3:3 and Titus 1:7. Deacons are prohibited to be given too much liquor (1 Timothy 3:8). The difference seems to be stating that as one takes on more responsibility in the church, the drinking of liquor should diminish. Also, there is no command to drink at all and plenty of caution scriptures about the enticements of liquor and abusing its usage. Read more
