Down Rainbow Road includes two new sequences of poems by Rob Wallis. Inheritance is a multi-voice history of Australian gay experience from the earliest days of exploration and settlement. Muscular Flirtations gathers more personal reflections on a life-struggle towards acceptanc...e and love. Selected Poems presents the variations of Rob's poetry through five earlier collections. 'This new work by Rob Wallis records the brutal truth of Australia's homophobic past and reveals his own story, a man who has lived it, survived it and survives it still, proudly and as a poet. There's an open hunger in these apges. There's protest, desire and declaration. There's the renouncing of shame and guilt, plus the acknowledgement of damage and fallibility. He writes ... ...the mighty hurricane of truth will sweep all the debris away and leave you standing naked scarred imperfect a column of light an infinite illumination Rob Wallis is no secret, but with this deeply humane work of languish, lust and love, there's no doubt that he's arrived.' - Nathan Curnow

'You have seduced me, Lord, and I have let myself be seduced...' Jeremiah 20:7 In these collected writings from 1998 to 2004, Michael Bernard Kelly invites us into an intimate exploration of the inner wisdom and radical challenge of Christianity. In reflections that take us from ...the fields of Nicaragua to New York and the 'War on Terror'; from the joy of erotic pleasure to the challenge of cleansing the church of homophobia, Kelly gives voice to a spirituality of desire grounded in justice and love. Michael Kelly writes with great precision and poignancy of a yearning which everyone shares. A yearning for love, both physical and spiritual. A yearning for completion... - Fiona Capp A potent collection of thoughtful writings ... that are at once an acutely accurate critique of the shortcomings of the Church and a poignant testimonial to the heroic spirit that has, at times, invigorated it... - Victor Marsh, White Crane Journal Every chapter in this book is an invitation. Its thoughts and stories carry you over and over again into a deeper place... - Rev Dorothy McRae-McMahon These are the passionate dispatches of a reporter from one of the most hostile - for gay men and women - regimes on earth: the Catholic church. Michael Kelly has come out but stayed in. His indictment of the church is stark but his vision of what it might become has the power to move even hardened atheists... - David Marr

In this midyear 2021 edition of Bent Street, guest editors Sam Elkin and Yves Rees from the Spilling the T Collective bring a special trans and gender diverse community focus: essays, poetry, polemic, memoir, fiction, and imagery that explores and celebrates gender diversity. In ...this edition, trans creatives bring an acute understanding of how embodied subjects construct and perform gendered selves - an understanding that though sometimes borne of pain and trauma, and sometimes met in joyful euphoria - creates memorable art ... foregrounding nuances often eluding the cis gaze. A distinctive trans lens dissecting how gender works - for all people, cis and trans - shines through in this special issue.

              Living Halls

              Living Halls (Hardback)

              By Jack, Fiona

Living Halls represents the findings of an ambitious research project undertaken by Fiona Jack based in the study and cataloguing of New Zealand war memorial halls. Following the Second World War, government funds were made available for communities to plan and apply for support ...for memorial halls. Hundreds of these buildings, in what became a vernacular tradition, now form a chain of public space the length of the country. Jack has compiled a list of all extant halls and worked with people living in proximity to the halls to provide paintings of them. She has also made drawings herself based on the original applications made by communities now kept in the National Archives. Living Halls includes writing by Govett-Brewster Director Rhana Devenport, historians Bill McKay and Georgina White, fiction by Los Angeles writer Janet Sarbanes and a discussion by Jack with artists Sam Durant and Tom Nicholson. The publication has been made possible with support from the National Institute of Creative Arts and Industries (NICAI) Research Development Fund and Jenny Todd.

              PX: Thoughts on Painting

PX: Thoughts on Painting (Trade Paperback / Paperback)

              By Bryant, Jan; Emmerling, Leonhard

PX: Thoughts on Painting was published following the two-part PX exhibition at St Paul Street Gallery, AUT University, Auckland - A Purposeless Production: A Necessary Praxis, curated by Leonhard Emmerling, and Snow Falls on Mountains Without Wind, curated by Jan Bryant. This boo...k functions both as a theoretical study of painting practice - two opposed essays disagreeing about the supposed purpose or operation of contemporary painting - and an exhibition catalogue, illustrating in full the wide variety of practices that made up this show of the work of painters (in the widest sense) from New Zealand, Europe and the US.
