Set in Denmark's underbelly, first time writer/director Jeanette Nordahls striking Scandi noir follows an impressionable teenage girl who's placed in the care of an estranged relative (a remarkable Sidse Babett Knudsen), the head of a family crime syndicate. After losing her moth...er in a car accident, shy and grieving 17-year-old Ida (Sandra Kampp, a major discovery) is taken in by her aunt Bodil (Knudsen) and her three adult sons in the Danish countryside. Ida hardly knows this brassy, suburban matriarch, but its a tender and welcoming environment so she soon settles into the new surroundings. They're a loving - if dysfunctional - family at first glance, and its not until Ida learns of the shady nature of the family business that she begins to see through their gestures of affection and concern. Even so, young Ida finds herself drawn more and more into their world, and this complicity spurs some overwhelming moral and emotional choices. Read more

In her first lead role in an investigative series since The X Files, Anderson brings the same intelligence and depth of character to her portrayal of Stella Gibson, a successful, highly driven homicide detective. Jamie Dornan (Once Upon A Time, Sofia Coppolas Marie Antoinette) st...ars as Paul Spector, the ruthless serial predator she seeks. While chillingly hiding behind the faade of loving husband and father, Spector who is revealed from the outset is preying on women in and around Belfast. While the police are stalled in their investigation of these as yet unconnected murders, Gibson is drafted in to conduct a 28-day review on secondment from Londons Metropolitan Police. Almost immediately, Gibson determines these heinous crimes are all linked to the same person. An outsider, she immediately feels a certain level of hostility from the local detectives but Gibson understands the psychology of serial killers and how to find them. Under her lead, the team, including Archie Panjabi (The Good Wife) as pathologist Reed Smith, explores the case from every angle, uncovering an intricate web of lives entangled by the murders including members of both the killers and the victims families. Revealing how a modern, top level murder investigation team works when it comes up against every policemans worst nightmare, this rich and complex thriller is less of a whodunit and more of a cat-and-mouse game. Gaining in intensity as the drama unfolds, this is a hunt that will challenge the investigative skills of Gibson and her team to the limit as they race to catch Spector before he succeeds in killing his next victim. A South Auckland petrol station is the setting for this independent drama about graveyard shift worker Tania (Sophie Henderson, also the film's writer and based on her one-woman stageplay), whose long nights are spent chipping away at the savings she needs to leave with her littl...e brother in search of their father.
Raised Maori, Tania's bonds to her whanau underpin a life spent caring for her ailing mother during the day and preparing to take her brother Piwakawaka overseas. But as he leaves to pick kiwifruit and Tania is stuck at the gas station with a slack manager and an eagle-eyed regional supervisor, it seems she's not able to look after her family to the same extent.
A product of the NZ Film Commission's Escalator scheme, this low-budget feature, shot in just 20 days, brings Henderson's piece to the big screen courtesy of first-time director Curtis Vowell Read more
