WALKAWAY JOE follows the lives of Joe Haley and Dallas McCarthy, a road weary loner and a fourteen year-old boy, thrown together in this story about fathers and sons. When Dallas pool-hustling father abandons his family, Dallas takes to his bicycle and goes on the road after him.... No stranger to the bar scene or the world of pool hustling himself, Dallas is determined to confront his father and bring him home. Enter Joe Haley, a drifter wrestling with a past hed rather forget. Feeling responsible for the boys safety, Joe reluctantly becomes the boys protector. From the pool halls of Louisiana, through fights with bar drunks, visits to ex-wives, and threats from loan sharks hot on his fathers trail, Dallas and Joe push each others buttons, but ultimately forge a sort of father-son relationship of their own. It all leads to a climactic nine-ball tournament where Dallas must face down his delinquent father, and a wedding where Joe is forced to confront the son he abandoned long ago. In the end, Dallas comes to understand what it means to be true to yourself and Joe becomes a mentor to the boy in a way neither father could ever be to their own sons.

Bold and dazzling, acclaimed writer/director Pietro Marcellos multi award-winning drama MARTIN EDEN provocatively transposes Jack Londons 1909 novel about a self-taught and outspoken writer out of the American West and into a pivotal moment in Italys pre-war history. Thirty-somet...hing sailor Martin Eden (remarkable newcomer Luca Marinelli) is inspired to remake himself as a novelist, following a chance encounter with the sophisticated, wealthy Elena (the luminous Jessica Cressy). She immediately becomes not only the object of his passionate affections, but also the symbol of the status Martin aspires to achieve. Pursuing his newfound social and literary obsessions, Martin abandons his friends and working-class roots without hesitation, but eventually undergoes a political awakening that triggers yet another change. A passionate and enthralling cinematic achievement in the tradition of Rossellini and Visconti, Pietro Marcellos enveloping and superbly-mounted fable interweaves historical footage with an extraordinary production design of his own. The films ideas are universal and timeless: the hypocrisy of class, the disillusionment of ideologies, the limits of romanticism and realism, and the question of what it means, ultimately, to be an individual.

Where his prior film, the acclaimed epic AQUARELA, was a reminder of the fragility of human tenure on earth, in GUNDA, master filmmaker Victor Kossakovsky reminds us that we share our planet with billions of other animals. Through encounters with a mother sow (the eponymous Gunda...), two ingenious cows, and a scene-stealing, one-legged chicken, Kossakovsky movingly recalibrates our moral universe, reminding us of the inherent value of life and the mystery of all animal consciousness, including our own.LONG SYNOPSISIn the vastness of the living world, we share our planet with billions of farm animals. However, in industrialized societies we are conditioned to ignore the sentience of these animals, often regarded as a passive resource. Where his prior film AQUARELA was a reminder of the fragility of human tenure on earth, in GUNDA, master filmmaker Victor Kossakovsky offers a radically recalibrated moral universe, where encounters with a mother sow (the eponymous Gunda), two ingenious cows, and a scene-stealing, one-legged chicken, remind us of the inherent value of life for all beings. By returning a pig's gaze, listening to a cow's gentle lowing, or observing a chicken find its wings, Kossakovsky voids any pretension that we are unique in our capacity for emotion, consciousness or will. Immersed in these animals lives, lived to the full in joy and pain, it becomes inescapable that humankind must swiftly undertake the major changes necessary to end mass exploitation of our fellow creatures. GUNDA is Kossakovsky's deeply personal attempt to renew our vision of life and meditate on the mystery of all animal consciousness, including our own.
